Porukara College of Education, is owned by Gagultha monastery of Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), Relegious Congregation, St. Joseph Province, Thiruvananthapuram.

The college with the motto “That All May be One” was established in 2005 as a minority community institution to train teachers for secondary schools. Following the footsteps of our supreme guru, Jesus Christ, who called upon his disciples to be “the light of world” and “the salt of the earth”, it is envisioned that this institution, the teachers and trainees would become a luminous presence in the educational scenario of the third millenium. Just like the “salt” it has to impart a new taste and flavor and preserve intact the integrity of the lives of thousands of trainees who would pass through the portals of this institution. We accept this as a mission, need of the hour and a challenge paused by the 21st century.

The college is recogonized by the National Council for Teacher Education and is affirmed to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala.

The college offers two years (four semesters) teacher training course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Education in six optional subjects: Commerce, English, Mathematics, Natural Science, Physical Science and Social Science.
